Food for Thought: Darren shared some inspirational quotes with the club. Including a Paul Harris Quote “It has been the way of Rotary to focus thought upon matters in which members are in agreement, rather than upon matters in which they are in disagreement.

Happy Bucks:

Happy bucks this week included quite a few sad bucks as well. Donations were given for the following; giving notice for Market Manager position, 2 university students who stayed for the summer recently left (it was a great experience having them stay), citizenship issues faced by a grandmother who was born in France to Canadian parents, having the coolest short term job ordering supplies ($20,000) for and setting up the Home Ec. room for the new school in Bawlf, wife back to work at the new school in Bawlf, Augustana is bustling with the largest number of students on campus (over 1000).

 Judge:

Judge Harry used his position of power to recruit assistance with his flag delivery this weekend. Alan took one for the team saving many from parting with their dollars :)

50-50 Draw:

Dave pulled the eight of diamonds and the deck continues to get smaller.

Speaker:

Patrice introduced our speaker this morning. Stacey Strilchuk has lived and attended school in and around the Camrose area. She participated in a Rotary Youth Exchange to Sweden in 1989-90. Stacey completed university at the University of Alberta as well as an after degree program at the University of Calgary. She has worked within the Alberta Government for ten years in numerous departments before leaving to oversee a portfolio for physician recruitment and privileging in the Capital Health Region. Stacey returned to Camrose in 2008 to start work with the Camrose Primary Care Network as Executive Director. She enjoys travelling and sports and is currently living on an acreage outside of Beaumont with her husband Dan and their black retriever Bodhi.

The Camrose Primary Care Network is a joint partnership between a group of family physicians and Alberta Health Services. The Camrose PCN started as a very local program, but has grown to be more regional including Daysland, Bashaw, Tolfield, and Hardisty. They are looking at options to extend their services even further through remote access and onsite lodge services.

The PCN is funded by Alberta health using the formula of the number of family doctors multiplied by the number of patients attached to these doctors. Currently that is putting the PCN operating budget at close to $2,000,000.

The PCN’s Vision is to meet the primary healthcare needs of Camrose and Area through collaborative, comprehensive team based patient care. The family doctor is the point of entrance they must make a referral in order to access the PCN services. The family doctor is the “quarterback” of your care and the PCN attempts to avoid fractioning of care by ensuring the inclusion of family doctors. That being said, currently there are no doctors in Camrose accepting new patients and they are looking for answer for this beyond simply having people connect to a doctor elsewhere in the region.

The Camrose PCN has many areas of focus including chronic disease management, the Maternal Newborn Clinic (the PCN funds 24 hour on-call physicians for deliveries in Camrose), geriatrics (includes support to the individual and family with transitions to care facilities), grief and bereavement and a cancer support program which is hosting a 2 day conference in September to name a few.

The Camrose PCN is located in the Rec center and also the west end clinic and is very committed to providing local solutions for local needs. Stacey highlighted the need for partnership for continued success and growth. She would like Rotary to champion the PCN. Stacey’s office is in the Rec center and she encourages anyone who is interested in learning more to stop by for a coffee and chat.

After several questions from the floor, Patrice presented Stacey with a Polio Plus certificate for the vaccination of 10 children.
