Guest Speaker

Today Agnes H gave her Classification talk and shared with us some highlights from her life and the idea that choices play a huge part in both her and our lives.
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Agnes lost her mother at the age of 9 months. Her father, who was a leader in the church, chose to stay in Bogotá and later remarried.
At the age of 16, Agnes, was brought to Canada and completed her education. She chose to go on to University and worked for many years in the Cardiac Care field of medicine.
Agnes took a leadership role in the setting up of the first Community Cancer Care Center in Alberta, under the Klein Government initiative. Now there are 11 Centers in Alberta.
Being appointed a Senator at the University of Alberta was an unexpected honor for Agnes and has allowed her to participate in planning the future of the University alongside a group of dedicated and passionate board members.
When a door in her life closed, another one opened, providing Agnes with more choices. Being involved in the Stephen Lewis Foundation “Grateful Grandmothers in Africa” program is important in her life. Recently Agnes chose to become a member of our Club because she believes in the ideals of Rotary.
Family is the love of her life and they too have allowed her to make choices.

Agnes believes that the future is a place that is created and we are creating this through our choices.
