The in-person (with Zoom available) meeting was opened by President Alan with O Canada. This was a joint morning meeting with the Rotary Club of Camrose. There were 10 of 16 Daybreak (RCCD) members present and one Rotary Club of Camrose (RCC) member. No one attended via Zoom. There were 3 guests: John Blair and Scholarship recipients Ella Boyd and Hyacinthe Ante.

 

Alan read the Treaty 6 Acknowledgement:

 

 

President-Elect Odell Olson presented Robyn Gray Memorial Scholarship cheques for $1,000 to Ella Boyd and Hyacinthe Ante. They were asked to give a brief outline of their plans; both intend to become Architects.

 

Morris gave a PowerPoint presentation on the History of the Foundation, goals and contributions for this year for both clubs and how the Foundation uses the money

.

     The Rotary Foundation is a public charity governed by a Board of Trustees. Rotary International is overseen by a Board of Governors. The Foundation was started at a conference in 1917 by outgoing president Arch Klumpf who proposed using the leftover $26.50 funds to start an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” Charity Navigator has rated The Rotary Foundation as top-rated 4 stars. 88% of funds collected are used for projects.

 

Rotary Club of Camrose    $6460.77 (goal $5000)     $239.29 per member

Rotary Club of Camrose Daybreak $6265.52 (goal $7000) $417.70 per member

RCC       $3634.14

RCCD    $1540.71     Both clubs increased their contributions over last year.

The District Governor has a goal of increasing the per cent of members giving from 40% to 80%.

RCC 13 of 29 (45%) members contribute, RCCD 12 of 16 (75%) members contribute.

President Alan Fielding has a goal of having every member of RCC Daybreak contribute at least $25 USD ($35 Canadian).

There are recognitions programs for giving to the Foundation, varying with the amount and frequency.

They are used for district grants for our clubs: Days for Girls, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Scholarships and other District 5370 Club projects. Grants are available for International Projects in the areas of Service (Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Disease Prevention and Treatment; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Maternal and Child Health; Basic Education and Literacy, Community Economic Development, The Environment), Peace Fellows and Disaster Relief. $150 million is designated every year for Polio Eradication, it is matched 2 to 1 by the Bill and Amanda Gates Foundation.

 

Money that we donate sits in the fund for 3 years, then 47.5% comes back to the district for district grants, 5% is retained for administration and 47.5% stays in Rotary International for the grants mentioned above.

Lou spoke about the proposed membership fees in the budget. Proposed fees would be $150 per member, $35 of this would go to the Rotary Foundation with the member getting the tax receipt and the recognition towards Paul Harris awards. Members who can are encouraged to add to the fee by contributing additional funds to the District, which will be treated as a charitable donation. The Budget and the new fees will be voted on at the June 11 noon meeting.  You can vote by attending, attending via Zoom or sending in your vote by email to the Rotary Club of Camrose address.

 

Happy Bucks were given for: the Convocation at Augustana on Sunday where Bill Smith, a leader in Search and Rescue was granted an Honorary Degree, a brother-in-law’s successful cardiac bypass surgery, the joys of caring for his grandchildren while the parents are on a trip, an upcoming family fishing trip to northern Saskatchewan, an upcoming cruise to Iceland and Norway, a successful trip to Newfoundland to put his boat in the water, visitors from Holland.

 

Lisa Rohr’s father died yesterday, we were asked to remember Lisa and her family as they grieve.
